The Heart Behind the Hearth
If you haven’t visited the main about page for Home & Hearth, let me introduce myself a little bit! My name is Hailey, a 26 year old stay at home Christian, wife, and mother…in that order.
I have a 2, almost 3 year old son, Jaydon Patrick, and a 10 month old daughter, Daphne Lynn. They are the beings through which my sanctification grows and flourishes, and 2 of the 3 biggest blessings in my life (the 1st being my husband, Ben).
Hearth Meals sprouted from a deeply rooted yearning and passion to serve other mothers in my community who are freshly postpartum. After I had my son, I was faced with the reality of being a mom for the first time and felt very ill prepared to do so. In the midst of trying to rest and heal, learn how to take care of a newborn baby who needed me 24/7, and come to terms with this new life while battling raging hormones, taking care of myself nutritionally quickly fell to the back burner. I found myself turning to fast food, sweets, and empty, quick meals…I was always famished and never felt quite satiated the way a new mother needs to be eating caramel filled chocolates and ready-to-heat pizza (what a surprise). Then and especially now I see the consequences these food choices had on my physical and mental health.
With my second child, I made sure I did things differently. I meal prepped TONS of hearty soups, snacks, sourdough loaves, had lots of nutrient-rich tea blends ready to go, bone broths on standby, and plenty of hormone & postpartum supporting tinctures (hint, hint, future product?). I had a home birth as well this time and believe it made a huge difference in my postpartum experience. While my postpartum dream plans were slightly thwarted when we ended up in the hospital immediately after birth for what would be a week long endeavor (everything is totally okay now!), the difference in my postpartum healing was night and day.
Since then, the desire to support and aide in the healing of other mothers during such a sacred and vulnerable time in their life has been watered, tended to, and mulled over for quite some time until finally, it blossomed into Hearth Meals. This “passion project” if you will is something very special and important to me, and I hope you get a glimpse of that in all that transpires here at Hearth Meals. God Bless!
